Remedios Varo (born in 1908, near Girona, Spain) studied art in Madrid, later moved to Paris where she met famous Surrealist artists -- Leonora Carrington, Dali, Max Ernst. In 1941 Remedios and her husband poet Benjamin Péret, the French Surrealist poet, settled down in Mexico City in 1941, escaping Nazi occupation.
In 1950s she entirely devoted herself to painting. Her first personal exhibition in 1955 was a huge success.
In 1963 she died of a heart attack in Mexico City.
