Friedrich Loos (1797-1890) was an Austrian Biedermeier style artist. He was born in Graz and studied at the Vienna Academy with Joseph Mössmer. He lived in Vienna and Rome, and later moved to Kiel, where he worked as a drawing teacher at the university.
The realism of Loos' landscapes was oriented towards light effects in order to loosen up his painting, as well as to harmonize and unite the details.
The artist's landscapes made a major contribution to the development of Austrian landscape painting.
