Ladies in the Garden by Robert Reid (1862-1929)
The American Impressionist painter and muralist, Robert Lewis Reid, was born in Massachusetts. He attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston; in 1884 he moved to New York to study at the Art Students League, and a year later he went to Paris to study at the Julian Academy.
Upon returning to New York in 1889, Reid focused mostly on depiction of young women set among flowers. Later the artist worked on several mural projects and became an instructor at the Art Students League.
