Camille Bombois (1883-1970) French Naive Artist
Camille Bombois was a French Naïve artist, famous for his paintings of circus scenes.
Until the age of 12, he lived on a barge and attended a local school, then worked on a farm, drawing in his spare time and wrestling at the local fairs. And as a wrestler, the young man joined the traveling circus.
Bombois moved to Paris in 1907, got married, worked at night jobs and never stopped painting. He earned 3 decorations for bravery during his 4 and half years of military service on the front line of WWI. His paintings attracted some attention by 1922, but for the first time he exhibited in 1937.
