Portrait of Constance Smedley with a Violin (wife)The magnificent English artist, illustrator and writer, Maxwell Armfield enrolled in the Birmingham School of Art in 1899, in 1902 he moved to Paris to continue his education at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. In 1909 he married the writer Constance Smedley. They worked together at combining design, illustration, text and theatre.
