1. Most expensive painting

Picasso's Nude, Green Leaves and Bust, sold for $106.5 million at Christie's and set a world record for any work of art sold at auction breaking up a previous record - $104 million paid for Giacometti sculpture.




2. Most expensive book

Sold at Sotheby's London for $11,542,683, one of the most monumental printed books ever produced, John James Audubon's Birds of America, set a new world record for any printed book ever sold at auction. It is estimated there are only around 100 copies of this book which is more than three feet tall and contains 435 hand-colored prints. It was bought by London dealer Michael Tollemache for £7,321,250, making it the most expensive printed book in the world. In 2000, a different copy sold for $8.8 million.







3. Most expensive bracelet

Once owned by the American socialite Wallis Simpson, who married Prince Edward, Duke of Windsor, formerly King Edward VIII of the British Empire, the onyx and diamond panther bracelet set a new world record ($7.036 million) for the most expensive bracelet ever sold at auction. It was part of a collection of jewels once owned by King Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson and dates from 1952.


4. Most expensive diamond

The 24.78 carat Fancy Intense Pink emerald cut diamond set in platinum sold for $46 million Sotheby's Geneva, setting a world auction record for diamonds.
The new owner, diamantaire Laurence Graff, surprisingly named the stone "The Graff Pink", saying that "It is the most fabulous diamond I've seen in the history of my career and I'm delighted to have bought it."


5. Most expensive English silver

A new record price for English silver set at a Sotheby's London - the Great Silver Wine Cistern made for Thomas Wentworth, 3rd Baron Raby, ambassador extraordinary to the King of Prussia at Berlin, 1706-1711, sold for £2,505,250. The massive silver wine cooler was considered to be the most important piece of English silver to come to the market in 50 years and weighs in at a hefty 168 pounds.





6. Most expensive Chinese porcelain vase


The 18th century Chinese porcelain vase was only estimated to sell for £1.2 million but fierce bidding raised the price. The vase was found when a house was cleared out and sold £43 million at Bainbridges Auctions, totaling over $85 million to an undisclosed buyer.
The Qianlong vase circa 1740s has a reticulated double walled construction and an inner vase that can be viewed through the perforations of the main body. It is decorated with four cartouches each showcasing different styles of fish at play on stylized water backgrounds.

7. Most expensive English furniture

Dating to circa 1770 and believed to be crafted by Thomas Chippendal, the Harrington Commode set a new record for any piece of English furniture sold at auction. It was sold at Sotheby's London for amazing $5,980,438, over three times its estimate.


8. Most expensive sheet music

Setting a record price for any sheet music sold at auction, a rare first edition of the United States national anthem, The Star Spangled Banner, sold at Christie's for $506,500.

9. Most expensive comic book

A 1939 comic book in which Batman makes his debut sold for a record breaking $1,075,500. The 1938 edition of Action Comics No.1, featuring Superman's debut, was sold for $1 million three days earlier, in February, 2010, which is considered the Holy Grail of comic books. There are around 100 copies of the comic still in existence.


10. Most Expensive Barbie

Auctioned off at Christie's, the doll, wearing three carats of white diamonds and a necklace bearing a one-carat Fancy Vivid Pink emerald-cut diamond from the Australian Argyle mine, is the World's Rarest Barbie by Stefano Canturi and sold for $302,500.00.
