"...Scents of the rose, languidly,
Thanks to the passing summer breeze,
With her own fragrance blend.."
Paul Verlaine
John William Waterhouse, The Soul of the Rose (1908)
Kenneth Frazier, Woman with a Rose
John William Waterhouse, The Shrine
John William Godward, The Bouquet

The Waterhouse paintings are well known and much loved. Ditto, I think, the Godward. But Frazier's lady seems to have a horrible spinal condition.

Deletethat one is in private collection.
DeleteHels- i think you will find in the Frazier painting, if you look closely, that the woman is wearing a cape. notice the difference in colors between the dress and overlay that has seemingly fallen off the left shoulder. it is beautifully done and a wonderful addition to the collection for Mondays theme.
ReplyDeleteLadukeann - Thank you. I agree with you.

ReplyDeleteLinda a pintura.
Gosto muito de pintura, mas sei pouco. Sou apenas uma curiosa, amadora. Tenho descoberto aqui muita pintura que desconhecia.
Obrigada
Um bom fim-de-semana

DeleteI do feel sorry for the tiger that's been run over in the last painting.
